System integration company ASB Engineering Co. Ltd. supplied the Royal Irrigation Department of Thailand (RID) with a new surface water management system using ABB automation solution piloted by the AC500 control system. For ABB, this is the first control technology order won from RID Thailand.
The AC500 control system is responsible for the control and management of pumps, motors and water gates in a water plant at the Tungsong, Nakornsrithammarat river.
The Automation Solution
ABB's scope of supplies included:
1 central processing unit PM571 of the AC500 control system connected using distributed I/O network
Distributed I/O bus modules DC551-CS31
I/O modules with a total of 224 digital inputs and 96 digital outputs.
The AC500 system fulfills the customer’s requirement for high degree precision as well as the possibility to operate a distributed I/O system. The components are controlled by AC500 PLC or it can be switched to manual operator control. The system can also perform sequential controls of the pumps.
The ABB Products
The scalability and modular platform concept of the AC500 PLC enables the configuration of individual and multiple automation solutions. This automation system could therefore be used as the central control element or operate a remote distributed network to fulfill complex automation tasks.
The DC551-CS31 is the distributed I/O bus module of the S500 remote I/O system with 8 digital inputs and 16 digital inputs/outputs.
The Benefit for the Customer
In addition to the high performance, scalability and modularity of AC500, the customer made its decision to upgrade the control technology in favour of the ease of operation and programming simplicity.
Reduced idle time of the water plant and higher productivity are among the obvious advantages gained by applying ABB automation solution. The customer also appreciates the competent application support, the delivery time as well as the large complementary range of products ABB has to offer.
