2010-03-19 - ABB's Power Products Medium Voltage group out of Pinetops, North Carolina participated in the AWEA Wind Power Supply Chain Workshop in Greensboro, NC on March 17, 2010.
2009 was a record year for wind power in the United States. According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), 9,922 MW of wind generation was installed in the US in 2009, bringing the total generation capacity to 35,159 MW. The US continues to lead the world in wind power generation capacity. ABB in Pinetops, North Carolina, is working hard to provide the best products for the wind power industry as this important segment continues to grow.
On March 16, 2010, Jon Rennie, general manager for ABB's Power Products Medium Voltage factory in Pinetops, North Carolina, attended the AWEA Supply Chain Workshop to promote ABB’s instrument transformer products designed for the wind power industry. This workshop provided attendees with an opportunity to interact with representatives from different industries and learn about the wind energy industry’s needs, challenges, and opportunities for growth. Hundreds of manufacturers, many of them from North Carolina, participated in this workshop. The workshop was well attended by people involved in this industry and those looking to get into this growing market. Jon was interviewed by News 14 Carolina on a story they did about the show. You can see that interview at: http://news14.com/triad-news-94-content/top_stories/623406/manufacturers-learn-ins-andouts-of-nbsp-wind-power-industry.
At the show, ABB featured a number of products that are uniquely designed for the wind power industry. On display were the LG(X)-34-879 extended range outdoor metering current transformer, the KOR-20 ER extended range outdoor metering current transformer, the PS-981/PH-982 indoor/outdoor current transformers, and the VOZ-20 outdoor voltage transformer. These are all products that have sold to wind farm projects throughout the country. We also handed out the white paper, A Smarter Approach to Wind: Extended Range, High Accuracy Current Transformers for Wind Farm Applications written by ABB's Steve Lindsay. You can read more about that white paper at http://abbmvit.blogspot.com/2010/01/smarter-approach-to-wind-extended-range.html.
Seeing the growth of the wind power industry is exciting. We are finally beginning to realize the potential of clean, sustainable energy and we are proud to be a part of it.
