The new Relion® 611 series IEC protection and control IEDs

2012-07-03 - The new Relion® 611 series IEDs provide preconfigured and cost effective protection and control solutions for utility distribution and industrial electrical applications.

The release of the IEC 611 series of protection and control IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Device) has added another strong link to the chain of the ABB protection and control IED portfolio.

The 611 series is a part of ABB’s Relion® protection and control product family and consists of protection and control products designed for the protection, control, measurement and supervision of network equipment in utility and industry power distribution networks.

The 611 series fulfils the basic protection and control needs of a modern IED with powerful functionality. The functionality is built-up of application specific standard configurations that are preconfigured for most applications. This leads to reduced engineering needs and faster commissioning.

The easy to use web-based interface (WHMI) can be utilised for the easy setting of parameters and signal configurations.

All of this makes the 611 series IEDs a very cost effective addition to the Relion® Family of products – completing the existing range.

The 611 series IEDs provide you with standard configurations and feature the following common features:

  • Patented mechanical design for easy and secure inserting of the plug-in unit – contributes to a shortened mean time to repair
  • Dedicated push-buttons for control of primary equipment (Open/Close CB)
  • Role-based access control for authorized IED operation
  • Standard functions for rapid setup and commissioning – only application specific settings required
  • Pre- and post fault analysis assists with operation traceability via the integrated disturbance recorder
  • Continuous control of the operational availability and trip circuit supervision
  • The update tool of the Connectivity Packages supports the adding of one extra local HMI language to the device. The update tool is activated using PCM600 and enables multiple updates of the additional HMI language
  • Designed for IEC 61850 to support interoperability (binary GOOSE communication) between substation devices
  • Self-healing communication based on an optional second Ethernet bus
  • Application specific settings can be made and other IED information can be read via Web-browser based user interface (WHMI) or the common IED engineering tool PCM600
