ABB announces the Worlds First UL-864 TUV Certified SIL-3, Triple Modular Redundant Fire Detection and Protection System

Chicago, Illinois, March 25, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has announced that its ABB Triguard SC300E "World Class" TMR SIL 3 Safety platform has now been qualified as a Fire & Gas Alarming and Protection system conforming to the UL-864 Control Units and Accessories for Fire Alarm Systems Standard version 9, and the UL-2017 General Purposes Signaling Devices and Systems, at UL’s Northbrook Laboratory outside Chicago, Illinois.

This is a significant step forward for the loss prevention community, which has been signaling to ABB their need for an ISA S84/IEC 61508 compliant solution to industrial applications. ABB’s listing to UL864 provides an industrial strength solution that matches up with ESD SIL compliance issues.

    • It is only fitting that the ABB "August Systems" TMR platform is the first to meet the UL-864 and SIL 3 rated market demand for serious Fire and Gas Detection and Protection, considering it was the worlds fist TMR controller used in such applications in the offshore oil and gas production industry.
    • This distinguishes ABB and the Triguard SC300E system as the product of choice for the global Fire and Gas market. ABB has proven itself to have the right products; the right certifications and the right capabilities for protecting Life, Environment and Equipment to match the growing changes faced by customer HSE initiatives.

"With the approval of Triguard SC300E system by UL, users will be able to use ABB's certified system with greater confidence for fire and gas protection applications," said Asish Ghosh, Vice President of ARC Advisory Group. Fire and Gas monitoring is a significant segment of the safety shutdown system market.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 115,000 people.
