The RIO600 is a remote I/O unit and it enables intelligent and flexible I/O usage with the IEC 61850 station bus. The RIO600 I/O unit provides ABB Relion® IEDs with additional binary inputs and outputs to extend the IEDs protection&control applications. Additionally the ABB COM600 Station Automation device can utilize the remote I/O unit in IEC 61850 station bus communication for its 1131 logic processor in various applications. COM600 also acts as communication gateway towards upper level system for signals provided by RIO600. For IEC 61850 connectivity RIO600 uses IEC 61850 GOOSE to enable fast realtime communication between IED applications and physical inputs and outputs.
Due to its modularity RIO600 can be installed with user-specific channel configuration as per application requirements by combining different modules. One RIO600 IED can contain up to 40 binary inputs or outputs.
RIO600 is designed on an industrial hardware platform. The platform provides same reliability, performance and real-time functionality as the ABB protection and control IEDs.
